More about this scene

This is the Abergwesyn pass through the mountains to the east of Tregaron. Along this road passed thousands of cattle with 'cues', or two-part iron shoes, on their feet, along with sheep, pigs and geese, the latter with their feet dipped in tar and sand. They walked to the Welsh border and beyond, where they were fattened ready for sale to English markets. This route was chosen because it had no expensive toll gates.
