This photograph was taken outside the Town Hall, looking towards St James's parish church. H B Penty, opticians and jewellers (right) has been rebuilt now as Dorothy Perkins. Next door is a listed building, now the Portman Building Society. Built in 1855 in early Renaissance Italianate style, it has some fine carved and moulded features.
