More about this scene
A variety of signs help to advertise the range of goods and services on offer. Prominent are those of Dotesio & Todd (left), booksellers and printers. Sandwiched between the 'gents' clothing from 4/11 to 15/11' and Woodward's the hairdresser. On the right is the glass front and the lantern of Hill's Public Hall, now Mackay's. Up until the First World War it was used as a cinema, and as a venue for wrestling, boxing matches and roller skating.
