More about this scene

Much has changed in this view looking downhill northwards towards the station and the High Street, with the house on the left replaced by a Shell garage. The signal cabin at the bottom of the hill survives with the modern station to the right of it. The station was originally on the left-hand side of the road beyond the level crossing. The wall to the United Reformed Churchyard is on the right, and beyond is a terrace of three shops with flats over which was built about 1910. The rural calm of this view has long gone.
