More about this scene

Continuing south-east across Ashdown Forest, the tour finishes at Uckfield, a town now by-passed and the terminus of a commuter railway line to London, the continuation to Lewes having been closed. Uckfield prospered in the Victorian period, following the opening of the railway station in 1858. This view looks north up High Street towards the Church Street and Heathfield Road crossroads. Much has gone on the left, but the 1880s library with the two large stacks in the distance survives, remodelled in 1907.

HI THERE, MY GREAT GRANDFATHER JESSE GAUSDEN USED TO LIVE AT 51 ALEXANDRA ROAD UCKFIELD UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1928. HE WAS BURIED IN THE OLD UCKFIELD CEMETERY. Vernon Place Uckfield
My great grandfather, one of the early founders of the Liverpool Victoria Insurance Society ( LV= ), died in retirement in 1905 at Vernon Place. I understand the the address no longer exists. Can anyone enlighten me to where it was ? Many thanks for any help. David Allen, Leeds.

The Cedars

My aunt lived in a large old house on London Road called 'The Cedars from around 1950s to the 70s when it was demolished. Does anyone have any photos of this house? There is still a road of that name where it was. Ann M

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
