12 Station Rd Sutton Clark Hairdresser

A Memory of Swanage.

At the end of this road on the right would have been my grandfather's hairdresser shop. My Dad, his son, said that his mother would go in the bakery adjoined to the print shop next door to get baked goods for afternoon tea. She served the tea and baked goods to the other hairdressers in the shop. My Dad lived over the shop with his parents and one brother. They lived there until the war when it got too dangerous. My Dad was 10 when they moved to 6 Downs View in a house owned by one of my grandfather's clients.

We are looking for photos of Sutton Clark Hairdresser at 12 Station Rd. It had a clock out on the street that my grandfather installed in 1936. He took it down at the beginning of the war.

Does anyone know anyone who might have photos of 12 Station Rd in 1936 to 1939?

Comments & Feedback

Was the Sutton Clark hairdresser a relative of Richard Sutton Clark who had the Ship Inn at Swanage and later the Bankes Arms Studland.

I remember as a boy having my hair cut at Sutton Clark's in the 1950s.
