More about this scene
The chapel replaced a Norman aisle on the same site. On the floor, to the right as we face the altar, is the gravestone of John de Berwick, a dean of the minster, who died in 1312. This was once an altar tomb in the centre of the aisle, and around it parishioners gathered once a year to deal with church business and elect churchwardens.
