C Of E School

A Memory of Upper Arley.

I attended Junior School here in the mid 1960s. We lived then at Button Oak. A small Bedford bus would bring us to & from the ferry. The headmaster was a Mr Perkins. Once in class a wasp stung me & there was a big fuss, as I must have yelled loudly! Wish I could recall more.

Mr Perkins was my Grandpa. Whilst searching for history of Upper Arley School I found your comment.
I heard he was a strict but fair head master.
To me, he was a funny, kind grandpa.
Such a pity you can’t remember more about the incident.
Wishing you all the best.
Fred Perkins was headmaster when my dad was at Arley Schol 1937-1944 approx and still there when I went in 1965. He must have had a long career at Arley
@ Graham Warrener: do you recall Gale Hobson? She attended the school at time. She lived at the Lodge, further up the hill from the Valentia Arms pub. Cheers.
@ Graham Warrener: correction, I meant the ‘Grange’ - not the Lodge!
