More about this scene

Little seems to have altered in the market place since the 18th century. The square seems quite small now for a town which has had an extremely active market since the 13th century. The grand church of St Peter and St Paul, which oversees the goings-on, is from the 14th century, but it was badly mauled in a restoration of 1842.
