More about this scene
The River Wey rises below the great escarpment of Ridgeway Hill. It emerges as one of the largest springs in England, and has been earning its keep as a stone-walled tourist attraction for more than two centuries. The first royal visitors were George III and his court on their summer vacations to Weymouth. Its most notable visitor of the early 20th century, the Prince of Wales, drank its water and made his wish long before Mrs Wallis Simpson ended his brief reign as King Edward VIII.
