The Riding School

I spent two weeks of every school summer holiday in the 1950s in Allonby with my mum and two aunts and numerous friends. We used to either rent a cottage in one of the farmers' fields or in a old converted train carriage. It was ...Read more

The Dew Pond

I used to play around this pond, ride my bike through the edges, and later on caught fish here. Many of those were aquarium species that had been released into the pond. We used to catch goldfish often, and I once placed a ...Read more

Fun On The Ferry

Around about l956/57 we would all go to dances or parties in Southampton and of course, from memory, the last bus home to Hythe/Holbury/Fawley/Calshot was about 10.30p.m. Inevitably we girls missed it so there was a mad ...Read more

Tottenham In The 50s

I was born in Mount Pleasant Rd in 1947 and lived there until 1959 when we moved to Norfolk, attended Bruce Grove Jnr School and then Rowland Hill. I can remember being taken home from school by my teacher during the smog ...Read more

Statutory Swingin'

As a young lad in the “swingin 60’s”, the swingin’ rather passed me by … and no regrets there. But the word puts me in mind of the swinging we did do. Just down the lane from Allsopp’s garage – the hallowed source of ...Read more

Denes Holiday Camp

It was lovely to find this page as I have looking for info on the Old Denes holiday camp for some time now. We first went there in 1977 in our Monza touring caravan and enjoyed a few holidays there. It was kevin that ...Read more
