More about this scene
Wadhurst, a village about six miles south-east of Tunbridge Wells, was a centre of the iron industry during the 16th and 17th centuries. At the time of this photograph, several of the older properties in the village were clad in the characteristic weatherboarding of the eastern Weald. In 1956 an RAF plane crash demolished the Queens Head Hotel in the High Street, along with several other buildings.
