Hulton High
A Memory of Walkden.
I went to Little Hulton High School 1970-75 and remember walking up Madam`s Wood Road to school every day. We would go to the bakery [Hames`s] on Little Hulton Precinct to buy our lunch as 5th years. I used to run for the school and some of my year students were : Johnny Gregory, Roy Walker [ Wogga] David Metcalfe [Meccy], Gary Foley [Fossil], Neil Parkinson, Dave Calderley and my best friend was Jill Baker. Jill married Dave and they have lived in NY US for many years. I moved away from LH when I left to start my career. I still miss the people, they were great. It was a really good school and a great advert for the Comprehensive system [ at that time untried and untested] but, many went on to achieve great things academically some of those who were not academic grew successful businesses in building etc. They were great times with great kids and I feel privileged to have met them all and shared an important number of years with them. Many of us had shared infant/primary education at Wharton County Primary School Rothwell Lane before Hulton High School. When I reflect, we had some brilliant teachers [they were our success stories] Mr Hodgson & Mr Thomson [English], Mr Walker [French] , Miss Walsh/Mrs Rhodes Geography, Mr Wilson [History].
