More about this scene

By the river, a road leads off Walton Lane under the bridge towards Walton Marina. At weekends the banks are lively with visitors, strollers and walkers, rowing club members, and people visiting the café. The warehouses beyond the bridge have gone, to be replaced by blocks of flats in Swan Walk and Riverside which take advantage of the river views. However, their view is marred at present (October 2001) by what I hope is a temporary road bridge - the 1860s one in this view has been demolished.

While another large room,my bedroom, had a small window that overlooked the front/side and I ...see more
This picture was taken from the front of the Civil Defence Corps HQ in New Zealand Avenue. I was a member of the Corps until it was disbanded in March 1968.
I spent my childhood in Walton to the age of 20 when I got married. I have so many happy memories that I have written my biography up to the age of 15, describing so many of the things I did with friends and the places in Walton that were relevant. One of the strangest activities was following fire engines to fires. Anyone who lived in Walton in the 50's and 60's will remember the siren that went off ...see more
