Warmsworth 1933 1950

A Memory of Warmsworth.

My name is Gordon Giles, originally from Warmsworth, but now living in north Wales. When I was 6 months old my parents moved to 6 Gleeb Street, Warmsworth. This was June 1933. I lived there until 1950.
We then moved to Balby. I have great memories of going to school in the village, I also remember the people who lived in Gleeb Street, there was Mr Longley, he was a carpenter and made coffins in his workshop at 3 Gleeb Street. At the bottom of the street was a greengrocer called Mr Guest, he had a horse and cart and went round selling fruit and veg. I was friends with their grandson Geoff Norman. We used to play cricket together.
I used to visit most houses in Gleeb Street, Mr and Mrs Ashmore at no 2, they sold soft drinks, there was Mrs Day at no 4> It was a nice quiet street to live in. After my father died, he was Thomas Giles, we moved to Westmoorland Street, Balby. I now live in a lovely village near Caernarfon, north Wales, after leaving the RAF in 1955. I do hope someone may remember Gleeb Street, and the church belfry at the bottom of the street. I can still remember it starting to ring again on Sundays after being silent during the 1939-45 war.

Dear Gordon,
We are John and June Franklin from Doncaster. Just seen your post regarding memories of warmsworth. Geoff norman was our cousins husband who sadly passed away in Sept. 2010. Geoff left us many old photographs of warmsworth some of which date back to late 19th/early 20th century. These include many of Mr. Guest with his horse and cart and also pics. of Geoff with the cricket team which you may well appear on.
