Wellington, about ten miles south-west of Taunton at the foot of the Blackdown Hills, is an attractive market town with its focus where South, Fore and High Streets meet. Here the late Regency Town Hall was built in 1833 with its cupola and clocks; the latter have since been replaced by square faced ones. The splendid E H Aycliffe shopfronts to the left have since been replaced.

Stories Coming To Life.
What a find!! My great and great great grandparents lived in South Street, Wellington. I couldn't believe it when I had a closer look at this photo, on the right hand side of this there is a drapery shop and it has their name over the doorway. GRATTON. I had heard stories of the drapery shop in Wellington but never imagined that I would see it. What a brilliant web site too.

Evacuation
My memories of Wellington are ones of feeling very homesick. I went there in November 1940. I stayed at the Vintage Hotel. I believe Mr & Mrs Joseph were the proprieters and they were very kind to me. They had a daughter named Betty but I was very unhappy, I was only there for a couple of weeks, it was decided I was to go and stay with my aunt who was billeted elsewhere in the town, but I just wanted to go home. ...see more

Anna''s Outing To The Wellington Monument
I have driven up and down the M5 so many times and seen a monument on top of the Blackdown Hills.  Each time I passed I wondered what it was and so eventually I got hold of an Ordnance Survey map and identified it as the Wellingotn Monument.  I promised myself that one day I would actually NOT drive past but I would make an outing specifically to go and see it. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
