More about this scene
Six years after picture No 39384 was taken, the most notable change to the view lies in the resurfacing and repair of the pavements and guttering on both sides of the street. The distinctive cupola and copper dragon weathervane of 1859 rises above the Tolsey House on the corner of Market Street. This 17th-century house was used for the market court and as a lock-up. Facing it is the White Lion Hotel.
