Wrinstead Court

A Memory of Wrinsted Court.

I went to Wrinsted Court with my mother and brother and sister in 1950. We went as tenants. Here is a short background. My father was killed in 1941 as he was in the Navy. Then my mother met my first step-father who was also in the Navy. I think when he came out he suffered Post Traumatic Stress which was not recognised in those days. He couldn't hold down a job and he started drinking and became violent. Mother and the children went to Wrinsted to leave him. Anyway after a short time my mother and the Landlord became an item and eventually married. Nobody could have been a better father than my then Uncle Maurice. The farm was sold in 1951 or 2. I can't quite remember and we moved to Devon. Going back to Wrinsted I had a cow, called Nemo, who used to meet me from school when I came up the back drive. Apparently she coud be quite bad-tempered in the dairy and would kick if someone dis-pleased her but I could visit her and come to no harm. We also had 2 geese and a gander called Dinah, Maud and Harry . Harry and our dog, Dirk who was a Staffie, had a love hate relation-ship. One day Dirk wasn't looking and Harry nipped him on the backside. He shot forward and hit his head on a wall with such force he moved a small part of a wall to right angles.
I went back in the 1990's to show my husband and unfortunately it had been demolished.
