More about this scene
Imphal Barracks covered a huge area, and could house at least one cavalry regiment and an infantry battalion, as well as providing support for reservists, volunteer units and recruit training. In 1886 the resident cavalry regiment was the 3rd Hussars, some of whom are seen here at sabre practice. Yorkshire regiments fought in many parts of the world, including Egypt, Europe and the North-West Frontier.
