More about this scene
Whilst some buildings in Accrington have remained virtually unchanged, others have been altered almost beyond recognition. Christ Church, built in 1840, is one such example. Severe dry rot, discovered in 1949, led to much heart-searching by church officials and the eventual decision to demolish the spire in 1954. In 1968 the roof was removed, and in March 1969 the church was re-hallowed following restoration.
