More about this scene
Ashburton was the terminus of the nine-mile branch of the Buckfastleigh, Totnes and South Devon line, which was completed in 1872. The last passenger train ran in 1958, but there was a brief renaissance when the Dart Valley Railway took over the line. However, the construction of the new A38 on the track called time on the railway, and the very last train ran on 2 October 1971.
