Memories of Balham


I lived in Balham from 1947 to 1967, and recall two ballrooms. The first being directly opposite Balham underground station, above the ABC café on the corner of Chestnut Grove. My Mum, Dad and I moved to the new council houses in Boundaries Road (built on a bombsite) in 1957 when I was 1 year old, so obviously my first memories are of Balham. I lived in Balham from the year I was born until 1963 when my family moved. I went to Henry Cavendish School and remember the swimming pool being built after a lot of fund raising. I lived in Balham for many years, and when my Nan came to visit, her first request was a trip to a little shop near the market that sold 'old fashioned' knickers, stays, liberty bodices etc, I have fond memories of that lovely little shop sadly long gone now, but cant remember the name, can anyone help to jog my memory.
