More about this scene
The large building on the right is the HQ of the former Barry Rowing Club, which was one of the oldest sporting clubs in Barry. In front is the wooden slipway for the launching of rowing gigs and skiffs. The pole near the end of Knap Point (left) was known as the Monkey Pole, and was used as a practice mast by lifeboatmen or coastguards for the firing of rockets with lines attached to a breeches buoy.
