More about this scene
A Limerick architect provided the design of the building, though his estimates of cost proved to be low - help from the all-powerful American Methodists was welcome. The college opened in 1868, taking 80 boarders and 120 day boys, not all Methodists. It soon became the largest school in Belfast. Some years later, additional accommodation was provided in the McArthur Hall; this was named after its benefactor, who was Lord Mayor of London and a Westminster MP.
