More about this scene
Here we see another view of the street, which was cut in early Victorian times to become a channel of trade and industry. The vista extends to Cromac. The nearest building, owned by the Scottish Amicable Assurance Society, was the first such independent block designed to make its impact on Belfast. If the Lloyds office adds to the prestige of the establishment, then it seems no harm was done by accommodating a band-room. The lower building marks the corner with Queens Square, and belonged to the Northern Bank. If it was to be left behind in height, its stone still befits the solidity of a bank.
