I lived in Belvere for 21 years and left in 1964 My husbands grandfather had a sweet shop in Nuxley road next to the social club and the other side was the bakers. Would anyone have any pictures of this shop. We would be very interested in seeing it. Thanks
From 1975 we lived in one of the council maisonettes, Baden Powell House, which are still opposite the parade of shops in Lower Belvedere. I remember it was such a great place to grow up, knowing all the neighbours by name and being able to safely play out on our own on the estate until evening. I left school in 1958; my first job was in the menswear dept in the coop in Sheridan Road Lower Belvedere. Does anyone have any memories or photos of the parade of coop shops that was there until about 1959/60 when they were demolished, and moved to the existing parade on Picardy St. These were the old individual shops, a butchers, greengrocers, grocery, shoe, and menswear. Hi..I lived in the huts in Albert rd upper belvedere in 1945 opposite the swings & Mr the Prince of Wales pub.We m9ved from there to a new council house in approx 1951..I have tried to find a photo of the huts (ours was at the front close to where the flats are now.I was born in my nan's bed in Holly Hill road. Does anyone have or know where I can find a photo?..Behind us was some prefab where my uncle lived with ...see more
