More about this scene

This small town grew up on the course of the Roman road from London to Chichester, later known as Stane (or stone paved) Street. In later years it developed as a small coaching town on the London road. Despite the traffic, the buildings mostly remain; even Field's is still a hardware shop. The buildings beyond The King's Head have gone, and the wall on the right has been replaced by a row of lock-up shops.

The Swings
Loved seeing the old play park which we simply called The Swings. It had a horse type swing just inside the gate to the left; a child would stand either end with others sitting in the middle, and the end guys would push forward and back to make it swing. Old Billingshurst
my name is Michael p aged 79 my twin brother john lived with our parents at the old post office with a big garden at the back beyond that was a working mans club(newly built) behind that mrs puttoks orchard where we went scumping beyond that nothing but one old house at the top of the hill then open fields and woods full of primroses we went to primary then senior schools up coolham road both have gone now I could go on and on

Childhood

I grew up in Billingshurst. My father Barrie Hunt, was the local police officer between 1969 and 1976. My mum Freda Hunt helped with cleaning the old village hall and the vicarage as well as helping at jumble sales . The police station resided between two houses on the top of Coombe Road the station is now gone. I have so many happy memories and so many friends that I now never see. Childhood Memories
I remember when the park looked like this the slide was so big. The merry go round and the horse they should put it all back like it used to be. Always thought the house named mothers garden looked black and creepy still looks like noone lives there would be nice to live there though and paint it white.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
