More about this scene

To celebrate the 21st anniversary of the founding of the Scout Movement, 56,000 scouts from around the world held their 3rd International Jamboree in Arrowe Park. A campsite of 450 acres was provided free of charge by the then Birkenhead Corporation. The site was a mile long by half a mile broad, and the scouts of all nationalities camped together. Today the park is better known for its involvement with the NHS on the Wirral. The purpose-built Arrowe Park Hospital today has some 920 beds; it offers A & E services to the whole of the Peninsula, and admits as many as 140 emergency patients on a busy day.
