Bishop's Stortford, Potter Street c.1950

More about this scene
Behind the Morris 8, Church Street turns to the left with Boots 'Cash Chemist' on the corner. Today Potter Street is one-way - the traffic in the photograph is facing in the wrong direction. The fascias to Boots and beyond hide a range of early timber-framed buildings. Disons, on the right at 25 Potter Street, replaced William Rowlandson's draper's shop which occupied the site in the 1920s. The town's great claim to fame is that it is the birthplace of Cecil Rhodes, founder of Rhodesia.
