More about this scene
At the crossroads of Market Place and Potter's Street stands the neo-classical Corn Exchange, designed by Lewis Vulliamy, whose original frontage had a grand entrance dominated by a statue of the harvest goddess Ceres. These were removed and the glass roof substituted to provide adequate light for the grain dealers' rooms. The building also housed the offices of the London and County Bank. The porch on the immediate right is the entrance to the Urban District Council offices.
