More about this scene
One of Blackpool's former attractions was a gigantic Ferris wheel, seen here behind the sea-front baths. Constructed in 1896 beside the Winter Gardens, the axle alone accounted for 30 of its 1,000 tons. Before the structure was dismantled in 1928, 30 cars, each accommodating 30 people, rose 220 feet into the air to give a spectacular view across the town.
