More about this scene
Bognor as a resort had been founded by Sir Richard Hotham; its best late 18th-century buildings were a little inland and given the name 'Hothampton'. It was a very fashionable resort and popular with royalty. The first buildings started in 1787 and this terrace, known as Hothampton Place, was built soon after at the north end of Waterloo Square. It was sold to the Merchant Taylors Company as a ladies' home in 1870, as seen here, but was demolished in 1935.
