Memories of Calne


Does anyone still remember the Greenacres Approved School for girls which was on Curzon Street. I believe it is now called Springfields. I was there in the 1960s and loved Calne as it was then. Although not from the area, I have never forgotten the place.

I also remember Greenacres School.My mother was the nurse there,May Wright.We lived opposite the school and during the sixties the girls occasionally babysat for my sister and I.I remember once they found my mothers wedding dress,tried it on and broke the zip!My mum and dad are still in that house and I have very fond memories of Greenacres and the adjoining farm.

Our Grandmother lived at 7 Wessington Avenue and my sister, my cousin and I stayed with her during many school holidays. She was a member of the Blackford family who owned the building works on the left of the photo and Tudor House next door. We loved visiting, sometimes on the Royal Blue Coach.
