Chalfont St Giles, The Pond c.1955

More about this scene
Chalfont St Giles retains much more of its heritage and character than its southern neighbour, Chalfont St Peter, with a High Street lined with good buildings, a pond and the parish church tower peering above the tiled roofs. The 17th century brick cottages in front of the tower in this view were built as charity cottages. The church itself has a Norman south aisle and sits in a delightful churchyard with the backs of timber-framed cottages on one side and the Misbourne in its valley on the other.
