More about this scene
Tradition has it that the Devil visited Chesterfield one windy day and sat on the top of the spire so that he could have a good look at the place. To prevent himself from falling, Old Nick twisted his tail round the spire, but he was so shocked when he heard a local speak the truth that he flew off without unwinding his tail, causing the spire to twist.
