More about this scene

Church Town in the parish of North Meols had long had a tradition of sea-bathing, associated with a couple of local festivals known as Big and Little Bathing Sundays, when the natives took to the waters. As with other coastal locations, Church Town began to attract visitors wishing to take the sea-air and engage in a little sea-bathing; accommodation was offered by the village's two inns, the Griffin and The Black Bull.

A Selection of Memories from Churchtown

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Churchtown

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

We moved to Churchtown in '61 from the North East. Attended the junior school attached to St Cuthbert's church. Remember the area very well, Botanical Gardens especially. Used to go fishing there even though it was prohibited [which boys didn't!]. Left in 1970. Fond memories
I run this place now and we are about to re-furbish. Great memories of fantastic guests, team and just a great pub with a new story to tell every day!
