I was born in Slough in 1943 and lived in Cippenham until I was fourteen when we moved to Canada. Cippenham was the perfect place to grow up: a short bus ride to town, and a short walk to the open country, Burnham Abbey, and Bluebell Woods. Way back in the late 1930s and early 1940s I lived in Westgate Crescent and used to walk the length of Bower Way every day to Cippenham school, carrying my gas mask in a cardboard box. I used to be friends with Tony Rimmer who lived in that street. There used to be a passage way to a large Dry Cleaning company on the right at the school end of Bower Way. I remember Hogarth Close going up - it seemed out of place as all the rest of Bower Way was bungalows or modest 2-storey houses but with good-sized gardens. This was different - small gardens and lots of 3-storey buildings. I seem to remember it was built on the site of 2 big houses?
