Summer Of '66
A Memory of Cirencester.
During late July to early August, 1966, while visiting the U.K. from the States, I stayed in a stone duplex off the eastern main road into Cirencester from Oxford. One half of the house was occupied by three students from the Royal Agricultural University with whom I stayed, and the other half was the home of a lady with a young daughter. Across the road was a large farm estate with a tethered bull that grazed near the road, a fierce looking animal.
Most mornings we ventured into town for breakfast in my Italian rented Fiat 500 at the Mad Hatter's where I was introduced to a typical meal of scrambled eggs, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes, and tea with milk. (It's a treat that I continue to this day.) However, I've tried to find the country road and stone building on an online map recently, but it appears that the house no longer exists. None the less, the Cotswolds were a great experience for me that I've treasured ever since.
