More about this scene

The River Ribble in summer is the most pleasant of rivers, and to picnic and paddle by its banks has been a delight for many centuries. Here we see a photograph of children enjoying a day at Bungerley Bridge, north of Clitheroe. The young lad in the centre is obviously proud of his boat, but the young ladies on the right do not look too happy, do they? Waddow Hall, at the north side of the bridge, is a 16th-century building with additions of 1630. It was the home of the dowager lady of the Tempest family; it was bought by the Girl Guide Association in 1928.

By a lucky chance I was included in this invitation due to a strange set of circumstances... Just the Autumn before, in 1979, I had begun to play my piano accordian for the Whitethorn Morris team in Harrow, ...see more
I remember this pool vividly! One day I was riding my tricyle round the outside of the pool, which wasn't filled with water at the time. Unfortunately I happened to fall in and I cut my hand on a broken glass. After 34 years I still have a scar to prove it.
