Clowne, Harlesthorpe Dam c.1950

More about this scene
The Dam is still the popular name for Clowne's reservoir at Harlesthorpe, north of the former coal-mining village. Clowne takes its unusual name from the old name of the River Poulter which runs through the village. To the east is Markland Grips, an Iron Age hillfort on an outcrop above a craggy limestone valley.
