More about this scene
The west tower, the church's most important feature, is Anglo-Saxon of the mid 11th-century. Like many of the town's churches, it is built from salvage from the Roman town: bricks for arches, quoins and bands, and rubble and septaria (inferior stone nodules) for the rest. The nave west wall is also Anglo-Saxon.
