Cossington lies on the Polden Hills, overlooking the Levels. Cottages are grouped around the church and the manor (right), an early 19th-century building with bargeboards carved like lace. The earlier manor house belonged to the Brent family, who are commemorated in the church.

Not so much as a memory as a search. My family came from Cossington & Chilton Polden. My ggrandfather George Diment was a master blacksmith in Cossington. He made an iron band to repair the great tree outside the Church in Cossington. The tree is shown still standing in 1955 on one of the photos of Cossinton on this site. My great Aunt Harriet 1892-1981 was employed as a nanny to the Whiteleys in Cossington in 1913. I inherited some of the post cards she sent home to the family.
The Whitelys lived in a substantial house and had 3 children. The younger daughter was very ill and died during her employment. The family were very fond of Harriet and gave her one of the little girl's dolls as a ...see more
