Built in 1704, this fine mansion is especially famous for its superb staircase which is described as 'flying' up the back wall. The building has for a long time been abandoned and left to fall into a ruinous state, but fortunately plans are now being made to restore it.

After my grandfather's death the family home at Bishop's Castle was sold and his daughter, my aunt Daisy Probert moved to a rented top floor flat in Cound Hall. At that time the Hall was home to a rich selection of characters living in what my late father called 'genteel poverty' (!). My ancestor, Matthew Millichip was the Game Keeper for Cound Hall in the 1851 and 1861 censuses. Would love to see any photos of the staff of the Hall in those days.
Cound, was where my four times Grandad got married. He married Sarah Rowe in 1808 - Sarah was born in Cound, anybody even heard of this tiny place? Best wishes, Pete
