More about this scene

The large building is the Whitsand Bay Hotel; it used to stand at Torpoint on the banks of the Tamar, but was dismantled and re-erected here. Down on the shore is the little village of Portwrinkle, another ex-pilchard fishing village.

A Selection of Memories from Crafthole

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Crafthole

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

The bungalow in the centre of the photograph is called Donkey Halt as when the carts of pilchards were taken up the hill by donkeys they stopped there for a rest before tackling the very steep hill to the main road at the top.
