The Grand Hotel, Cromer

A Memory of Cromer.

The hotel on the right of this photo is the Grand Hotel situated on the Runton Road and corner of Beach Road. It had its own hard tennis courts across Beach Road - now a Car Park - and a flight of steps leading down to the Prom - replaced by Anglian Water.

Along the front towards the Runtons, stood the Grand which opened in 1891 and continued trading after de-requisition from W.W.2, until 1969 when new owners changed its name to The Albany. This seemed to be a bad omen as it burned down the same year and is now the site of some rather grand (sorry for the pun) apartments called Albany Court.
