Simpson Street
A Memory of Cullercoats.
I too lived in Simpson Street No 37 it has been knocked down now but my Godmother Gladys Harrison still lives there on the opposite side of the road I also went to Cullercoats school I have very fond memories of the village my grandparents were Ernie and Lizzie Gill ( nee Jefferson ) John Wheatley 's chip shop was just opposite us in the back lane and the coal mans horse was next door . I can remember running up Lilly ( Blackmans ) back stairs and down the front stairs into Huddlestone Street where I remember Mrs Callams shop Billy Reads and Wards I think it was a wool shop and Lavericks where I got my first bike an Elswick Jetstreem also the pie shop not forgetting the Barrons
I can still remember our old Coop number but some of the old names take a while to come to mind
