Although marine regattas continue to attract attention today, they are not as enthusiastically celebrated as they were in Victorian times, when they had considerable significance. The ships we see here include schooners and warships, most of which are dressed overall, which indicates a major event: they could well have been awaiting a reviewing officer, or possibly even royalty.
