More about this scene

Here we see several more of the local ironstone cottages with their well kept and productive gardens. There is a fine crop of runner beans in one garden as well as the usual flowers. This is a lovely tranquil scene with not a car in sight - it is usually the same today. The road to the left leads to the pub, the school, the village hall and the church, and the road to the right to Sedgebrook and the A52 to Nottingham.

The Avenue Of Trees
I remember The Avenue from when I was young in Circular Road (born there in 1948,) the trees always looked huge when walking down to the farm, I now know was Hyde Hall. My older brother helped on the milk round from there - the horse knew where to stop! We used to go sledging in the fields to the left just before here. My Childhood, My Youth In Denton
Stockport Road I remember well, like the bus from Denton to Stockport took this route and always had trouble climbing the hill into Bredbury. It was our Sunday walk route to Haughton Green to walk at the riverside,and have a drink of pop at a house-come-shop, I think it was called something parrot, not quite sure. The Way Home
The building on the right of the picture is Hope Congregational Church (at one time known as Hope Chapel). Next to it, behind the trees, is the old Sunday School which was part of the church. In the middle distance is the old Denton Police Station, now converted into flats. On the opposite side of the road is Bevan's Hat Works. Gatehouse
As a child I spent many happy holidays in Denton. My Grandparents lived in the right-hand side of the gatehouse; their names were James and Jane Howell. He was a gardener at the Hall. I remember at the age of about five years old, rushing out to open the big gates for horses or vehicles to come through on their way to the Hall. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
