Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

On the left, above the fourth sunblind, is a plaque informing the passer-by that Thomas Hardy was apprenticed here in 1856. On the adjoining wall is a plaque with the information that William Barnes lived here at about the same time - the older poet influenced the younger. The ladies carry wicker shopping baskets: there is not a plastic carrier bag in sight. The car in the foreground is a Vauxhall.

Kay’s Hairdressers
I did my apprenticeship in Kay’s ,I was 15 years 3 months when I started in 1965, so there is a very good chance I was working there when the South Street photo was taken. My boss was Mr Roy Collins who became Mayor of Dorchester. His mother in law used to have one of the barrows in South Street. High East Street
Channon's garage at bottom of High East Street.. good memories of my mother buying me my first car...a MGB ... when I qualified in medicine in 1967. My father had been a good customer of Channon's, but had died in 1963.

Shopping With Mother
My nose would have just about been level with the stalls given my age at this time! What one didn't grow in the garden,one could purchase on the stalls (not that it emulated Covent Garden). I haven't lived in the area for 45 years but I do believe it was a centre for a good old gossip!

Childhood
Between about 1956 and 1963, every year, my Mum and I would holiday in London for a week and then visit Auntie Claire in Cerne Abbas for one week. Claire lived in Acreman Street a direct reflection that the Cerne Giant took up an Acre of land. It was a 'must' to visit the Giant every year. The memories are vivid and glorious. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
