Easington Colliery In The Early 60s
A Memory of Easington Colliery.
As very young boy from Ascot Street I recall going shopping with mam to Walter Willson' s and then over the road to Snowdons for a bag of broken biscuits. Ice creams from Equis were lush but who didn't enjoy Burdess's little meat pies....cut the top off and suck the gravy out...mmm. Saw my first film at the Rialto .... Zulu... with my dad, and had my first snog in the back row as a young teenager. Loved school but so sad to see it's derelict state today...whatever will happen to this once handsome building? But hated the dentist...Rachind.. I think he was called. Put me off going for years.
I could go on and on.....happy memories...shame we all have to grow up.

Good to hear from you and yes I do remember you. I have three sisters, Susan, Gillian and Paula the youngest. I recall being asked to play with you all at the top of the street, that skippy game with elastics. I would be the anchor at the end with coloured elastics stretched around my ankles! My ankles and legs below the calfs are still void of hairs to this day! Ouch. The Parkins next door up, had a tin bath and we were so jealous. Having no bathroom then, we were bathed in the sink, towel wrapped and then sat on the hearth to dry off. Happy days. Mrs Frost was over the road, a lovely lady.
Susan and Gillian still live in Easington, up in the village.
Although looking back then life was quite tough, but I had a happy childhood, as we all did.

It's Barty, I can remember you from the top of Ascot st.Can you remember playing cricket in the back Street with the Tully's and David Dodds and a few others. Lost contact with you when we all left school or may be when you left us and went to Peterlee Grammar
